Children First Act 2015, Briefing Sessions & Capital Grants 2018

Kerry County Childcare Committee on behalf of The Early Years Child Protection Programme are hosting a series of Briefing Sessions on the Children First Act, 2015 for Early Years Services.  It is recommended that every service attend these briefing sessions.  Due to the large number of services in Kerry we can only offer one place per service at these briefing sessions.  We recommend that either the Designated Liaison Person (DLP) or Manager/Owner/Board Member attend (whoever has lead responsibility in relation to Children First in your service).

The Children First Act, 2015 was fully commenced on December 11th, 2017 and gives early years services new legal responsibilities. The briefing session will look at:

  • The implications of the Children First Act for early years providers
  • How to Develop a Child Safeguarding Statement
  • All attendees will receive a copy of the updated Children First National Guidance 2017

It is also recommended that all childcare staff complete the Tusla e-learning module Introduction to Children First which can be accessed at:

Relevant services are required to publish their Child Safeguarding Statement by March 11th 2018.  We will be looking at the Child Safeguarding Statements at the briefing sessions however, it is recommended that services become familiar with this and start developing their Safeguarding Statements prior to the briefing sessions.
