Family Learning

Family Learning consists of special courses for Mums, Dads and carers to help you support your child’s learning. These can include:

  • Story sacks
  • Child Development and Play
  • The Power of Encouragement
  • Helping with Maths and Family Health

Safetalk for Younger People

SafeTALK is a half day alertness training that prepares anyone over the age of 15, regardless of prior experience or training, to become a suicide-alert helper. For further details contact SWKerry FRC on 066 9481000 / swkerryfrc@eircom.net

Strengthening Families Programme

The Strengthening Families Programme (SFP) is a 14-session family skills training programme. The programme consists of 3 elements:

  • Parent Skills Training
  • Teen Skills Training (12-16 years) 
  • Family Life Skills Training

Positive results from over 15 independent research replications demonstrate that the program is robust and effective in increasing assets and protective factors by improving family relationships, parenting skills, and improving youth’s social and life skills.

There are a number of Strengthening Families Programmes being planned across the county.

Listowel FRC in partnership with KDYS, LINK SCP, Gardai and Southern regional Alcohol and Drugs task Force are running the Strengthening families programme for families with teens aged 12-16 years.

This is a 14 week skills based programme and will start on Monday night  5th November 2018.

7 weeks of the programme will run before the Christmas break with the remaining 7 weeks starting on Monday 7th January 2019.

Listowel FRC are currently seeking volunteers who are trained SFP facilitators to support this programme. Those interested please contact me directly on this email address.

Killorglin Neighbourhood Youth Project

The Neighbourhood Youth Project (N.Y.P) is a community based service providing one-to-one work and family support to referred young people aged 12-18 years and their families in the Mid-Kerry area.

Parents Plus Adolescents/Teenagers Programme

This programme is for parents with teenagers between 13 – 18 years old. It considers how parents can connect and build good relationships with their teenage children while also being firm and influential in their lives. Parents will receive support on handling conflict, solving problems and getting on better with their teenage children. Topics include:

  • Getting to know and connecting with your teenager
  • Communicating positively and effectively
  • Building your teenager’s self-esteem and confidence
  • Negotiating rules and boundaries
  • Teaching teenagers responsibility
  • Positive discipline for teenagers
  • Managing conflict
  • Solving problems together

Counselling Services

Kerry Adolescent Counselling Centre

A professional counselling service which provides counselling and support to adolescents between the ages of 12-18 years. Jigsaw Kerry is a community based approach to enhancing supports for young people’s mental health and well-being.
