Did you know that there is a whole day dedicated our Hold Hands programme during National Water Safety Awareness Week 2026? 🤝Hold Hands Day will take place on Thursday, 21st May 2025. This day will be all about sharing simple water safety knowledge with children between the ages of 3 and 5. Water Safety Ireland’s Hold Hands Programme uses six illustrated storyboards to show children how to stay safe around water in a fun and playful way. The storyboards cover a range of environments, including at the beach, on holiday, at the lake, on the farm, at the pool and at home. Children have a natural talent for asking the questions adults forget to ask. Why does sound travel? How can music come from a cardboard tube? What secrets are hidden inside ordinary things? At Listowel Writers’ Week, Dr Shane Bergin invites young experimenters aged 6 to 8 into a world where science begins with curiosity, play, and a little imagination. Inspired by The Experimenters: Luke and Ruby’s Scientific Sleepover, this hands-on workshop at Listowel Library will see children building musical instruments from recycled materials and helping solve a science mystery along the way. Dr Bergin brings science down from the laboratory shelf and places it firmly in children’s hands. No white coats required. Just curiosity. Saturday 30 May 10.30am Listowel Library Age 6–8 Free event.
