Is my qualification suitable for working in an Early Years’ Service?

If you are looking to secure employment in the early years sector in Kerry, and if you need to verify your qualification is suitable for working in an Early years’ service, please see the details and links below:

Under the Early Years Services Regulations all staff members must hold a recognised minimum qualification at QQI level 5 or above. The DCEDIY recognised qualifications list is the most comprehensive list currently available at DCEDIY Early Years Recognised Qualifications)

The list of documents that can be used to show proof of an individual’s recognised qualification to meet the requirements of the Child Care Act 1991 (Early Years Services) Regulations 2016 and be accessed on this List of documents for approval to work in Early Learning . The list can also be found on the Nurturing Skills website Information for Service Providers | Nurturing Skills

If you can’t find your qualification, then the procedure for applying to have your qualification recognised, from the 14th of April 2025, is through an online form . This online application process will ensure that applicants can upload their application documents with user-friendly, efficient, and accessible digital forms. This electronic form is  available on gov.ie – Recognition of an Early Years Qualification.

There are three options for individuals to apply for qualification recognition
1.)Those who have completed an Early Learning and Care qualification that does not appear on the DCEDIY list of recognised qualifications
2.) Those currently studying a course on the DCEDIY list of recognised qualifications
3.) Those who have an unfinished qualification on the DCEDIY list of recognised qualifications
